Watch out for the wrong kinds of toys.
When I shop for a toy for my daughter, I’m not just looking for the right toy for her age, but for her personality also. I wanted to play that she’s going to play with over and over again. I’m looking for a toy that inspires active play, if the toy does all the work, then I’m guaranteed it’s going to end up in the bottom of her toy chest. This is why most of her mechanical toys and up in multiple pieces. I’m looking for a toy that challenges her, but not too much so that she gives up, I wanted to be right on the edge of her learning capabilities.
Little Miss Know-it-All Knows 30 Countries Already
The LeapFrog Explorer Smart Globe has lived up to all these needs and more. My daughter keeps picking it up again and again. She finds new ways to use and play with it every day. For example, just the other day she was using it as a boombox, dancing to the national anthem of France. Also, the Smart Globe keeps pushing her forward. She knows how many countries she has memorized and is always trying for more (not to mention bragging about it to all our friends).

Do I have to give it back?
I read a lot of reviews about the LeapFrog Explorer Smart Globe on Amazon and one comment that keeps popping up over and over is “fun for all ages”. Now I happen to be a real trivia buff and so when I saw the smart globe in the store for the first time, I thought I’d give it a try. One hour later, I’m still sitting there in the middle of Toys ‘R Us playing with the darn thing. Of course, I have to give all of my daughter’s toys a test run before I give them to her, but this was different.
This thing is serious fun for grown-ups too.
My daughter usually leaves the globe laying around the house for easy access and so inevitably at every dinner party we throw, out comes the LeapFrog Explorer Smart Globe. Can you imagine, six fully grown adults, instead of sitting around talking politics… Here we are, all hunched around a toy instead! Now, I bought this for my five year old daughter, but the thing is, I think I’m playing with it more than she is!

What’s the Price of True Educational Fun?
Some toys get played with for 10 minutes and then immediately tossed aside. Some toys get broken and then for some reason never fixed. But then some toys go on to live in infamy, the best toy of Christmas. I definitely know what the number one toy from last Christmas is – Leapfrog Explorer Smart Globe. This globe has definitely proved itself over and over again. It’s been three months now and it’s still as active as ever. So you might be put off at the start by the price of the globe, but in the end, it’s still being played with, it’ll be worth it.
30 Countries in 5 Days!
Now, when you consider the state of geography education in the US today, anything that’ll get my daughter interested in learning about the world is a welcome addition to our home. Getting her to read books with me is like pulling teeth. So every time I see her playing with her Leapfrog Explorer Smart Globe, I pat myself on the back. By the day after Christmas, she had already learned all the continents and the oceans. Four days later, she had memorized 30 different countries.
